A series of free weekly forums about unemployment is beginning downtown, organized by the Worcester Unemployment Action Group. Anyone who is unemployed or concerned about unemployment is invited to come share food, discussions and workshops. There will be a new subject presented by an expert panel or individual every Thursday from noon to 2:00 pm.

This is a free service. There is never any charge. The forums are being held at Saint John's Church at 44 Temple Street Worcester, downtown near Union Station. They are on Thursdays from noon to 2:00 pm beginning May 17, 2012.

The subject for May 17 is “Where's all the money?” Grace Ross, author of “Main St. Smarts”, two-time candidate for governor and statewide leader on stopping foreclosures, will explain how we know there's plenty of money, where it is and how we can use it to put us back to work.

The forum on Thursday May 24 will be about applying for work with a CORI, and the new CORI law. There will be speakers from EPOCA Worcester. How do you deal with those check boxes and questions on so many job applications? What has been changed by the new CORI law and regulations? How do we get employers to follow the law?

On Thursday May 31 the subject will be Unemployment Insurance laws and claims. Lawyer Melissa Pomfred and Paralegal Terri from Community Legal Aid will answer questions about how Unemployment Insurance works, what your rights are, how to apply and how to appeal a denial.

The forum on Thursday June 7 will be about SNAP, which is also known as Food Stamps. Bruny Chevalier explains how to apply for SNAP, what to bring, rules and questions, how to follow through on paperwork and requirements. You should come even if you've been disqualified.
